Galileo Thermometer

5 items left

A classic science tool that will tell you the temperature and look great whilst doing it. Five coloured liquid-filled teardrops marked between 18-26°C rise or fall depending on the temperature. The lowest floating ball shows the current temperature.

Historical fact: Although named after the 16/17th-century physicist Galileo, the thermometer was not invented by him.

- Measures: 12"H

How does it work?
The Galileo Thermometer works on the principle that the density of a liquid alters with temperature changes.

Each ball is partially filled with a liquid which gives them an exact weight.

When the temperature rises or falls the liquid in the tube expands or contracts and becomes less or more dense. Each ball either sinks or floats depending on whether it is more or less dense than the liquid in the tube.
